Gord Brown raises $70,254 for United Way
November 27, 2009
Gord Brown’s Third Annual Hockey Night in Leeds-Grenville raised $70,254 for the United Way of Leeds-Grenville this year. Played November 16 at the Leo Boivin Arena in Prescott, the event featured 14 Conservative Members of Parliament on the ice with former NHL stars and local dignitaries and politicians. Behind the benches coaches consisting of two more Conservative MPs and local politicians kept their respective teams focused on the ice. A member of the NHL Hall of Fame, and Prescott resident, Leo Boivin, was honored at the start of the game and dropped the puck along with Ken Field Chairman and Founder of Greenfield Ethanol. “I am pleased that this was such a success,” says Brown. “It was thanks to the efforts of a lot of different people that we were able to raise the amount of money that we did.” Major sponsors came on board for much of the funding with many other sponsors providing items for the Chuck-A-Puck contest and the door prizes. Brown also notes the efforts put into the game by the United Way organizers, especially Beth Kent. “I was on the phone with her constantly as we worked out the details and made almost daily changes,” explains Brown. “Without her efforts I don’t know what we would have done. “I just want to thank everyone, the sponsors, volunteers and the fans, who had anything to do with helping us put this event together,” Brown says. |
