Southern Ontario Development Program committed to supporting Leeds-Grenville’s economic recovery

Brockville - Burnbrae Farms Ltd. will benefit from a repayable contribution of up to $1.6 million under the Southern Ontario Development Program for a business expansion. The announcement was made by Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.

“Our government is committed to creating jobs and supporting the people, communities and businesses of southern Ontario,” said Brown. “This investment will stimulate the economy today and create permanent employment opportunities.

“The funding program helps us strengthen and grow our business. It will improve our competitiveness and will allow us to gain access to new markets,” added Margaret Hudson, President, Burnbrae Farms Limited.

The project to which the funding assistance will be applied involves the purchase of a new value-added processing line, new freezer storage for the Lyn and Brockville sites, as well as sanitation equipment upgrades and shipping/handling infrastructure upgrades.

The Government of Canada understands the important role the food and beverage sector plays in Canada’s economy. That is why $20 million in funds was set aside to assist the food and beverage processing sector in southern Ontario.

These projects will create job opportunities and foster business growth throughout southern Ontario in this sector, which is the second largest manufacturing sector in the province.

The Southern Ontario Development Program was established to promote economic development, economic diversification, job creation and sustainable communities in Southern Ontario.

The program is just one in a series of initiatives introduced in the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which was designed to address the short-term effects of the economic decline on communities across Canada, while preparing our communities for long-term growth.
