Leeds-Grenville to receive Economic Action Plan funding to support job creating projects
April 06, 2010
FedDev Ontario supporting southern Ontario economic recovery Brockville - Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville, today announced that two projects in Leeds-Grenville will move forward thanks to an investment of more than $561,024 from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) to stimulate local economies. “I am pleased that we were able to secure funding for these two important projects,” says Brown. “They will provide economic stimulus and they will help the environment in Leeds-Grenville.” Two organizations are receiving funding. The Rideau Valley Conservation Foundation is an environmental charity working to help protect and conserve the lands and waters of the valley of the Rideau River in Eastern Ontario. It is receiving $72,274 to provide new pavement and add erosion control spillways on the road and hill leading to the Foley Mountain Conservation Area Outdoor Education Interpretive Centre. Eastern Independent Telecom provides telecommunication services in both wired and wireless networks. It is receiving $488,750 for the development of a facility to refurbish computers and telecom equipment to support Ontario's e-waste program and require capital to do so. This will include capital and non-capital costs. These projects will be supported through the Community Adjustment Fund, a two-year, $1-billion national program aimed at addressing the short-term economic needs of communities hit hardest by the global economic recession. Approved projects must meet the terms and conditions set out in their contribution agreements. FedDev Ontario was created as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan to support economic and community development, innovation, and economic diversification, with contributions to communities, businesses and non-profit organizations in southern Ontario.
