Gord Brown encourages participation in Veteran's Week
November 06, 2006
Brockville - Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville, today encouraged participation in Veteran's Week events and Remembrance Day.

"Veteran's Week, November 5-11, is a time to ensure that Canadians keep the memories and achievements of our veterans alive for future generations," says Brown.

"This year's theme is Share the Story. Canadians - especially youth, Veterans and Canadian Forces members - are encouraged to share their thoughts on remembrance and to learn from each other," he explains.

During Veteran's Week a wide variety of activities will take place across Leeds-Grenville, culminating in Remembrance Day, which falls on a Saturday this year.

"I encourage residents of Leeds-Grenville to join the ceremonies at their local cenotaphs and honour those men and women who ensure our freedom."

The events leading up to November 11 will be an expression of thanks to all those who served and continue to serve our country in times of war, military conflict and peace.

"By sharing the stories of our service men and women, the torch of remembrance will continue to burn bright," says Brown.

The year 2006 also marks the 50th anniversary of the first UN Peacekeeping Force, also a significant anniversary in Canada's military history.
