Bill C-542 to be discussed at book launch in Kemptville
September 03, 2008

Gord Brown’s Private Member’s Bill, C-542, developed as a result of consultation with a Leeds-Grenville family, will be part of the discussion at a book launch in Kemptville, September 9.

This Bill will provide up to two years of Employment Insurance Benefits to parents who have a child diagnosed with a serious illness.

“Usually in these instances, one parent has to stay at home and the family loses an income,” explains Mr. Brown.

“Families should not have to put their homes and financial security at risk because their child falls seriously ill,” he adds.

Sharon Ruth, of North Grenville, whose daughter is a cancer survivor and who has been an advocate for such compassionate care legislation, wrote a book about her experiences.

The book, The Guinea Kid, will be officially launched September 9, from 7-9 pm, at Leslie Hall (St. James Anglican Church) in Kemptville.

Everyone is invited to attend.
