Thirty more infrastructure projects approved in Leeds-Grenville

Brockville – June 5, 2009 - Residents of Leeds-Grenville will benefit from federal and provincial infrastructure funding to the riding announced today by Gord Brown, MP and Bob Runciman, MPP.

Thirty more infrastructure projects were approved by the two governments today as part both governments’ commitment to stimulating the Ontario economy through the creation of jobs in our communities.

These projects will improve transportation efficiency, support a healthier environment and enhance local facilities and services and create local jobs.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our government is getting shovels in the ground and flowing money faster to stimulate the economy and create jobs for Ontarians,” says Mr. Brown. “Thanks to the strong relationship between our two governments, we can work together to help Ontario communities and the economy thrive immediately and in the future.”

“I am pleased with the Federal-Provincial announcement this morning," says Mr. Runciman. “The projects announced today will lead to improved transportation and enhanced facilities and services in Leeds-Grenville and as the local MPP I am proud to support our municipalities.”

The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest one-third of the cost of these projects. The municipalities will contribute the balance of the total eligible project costs.

Brockville: Rehabilitation of Memorial Centre - $425,000
Gananoque: Brock Street Reconstruction - $4,673,332
Augusta: Concession Road 2 reconstruction - $2,444,445
Elizabethtown-Kitley: Reconstrcution of Second Concession - $2,662,811
Leeds and 1000 Islands: Drinking Water, Lansdowne - $962,500
Rideau Lakes: Road rehabilitation - $211,693
United Counties: County Road 2 rehabilitation, Mallorytown to Long Beach - $2,919,930
Westport: Closure of waste disposal site - $ 207,778
North Grenville: Library - $4,000,000
Gananoque: Sewer Infiltration Control - $450,000
Gananoque: De-sludging - $600,000
Prescott: Waste water project - $1,200,000
Prescott: Sludge Tanks - 780,000
Athens: Town Hall renovations - $195,000
Augusta: Garage renovations - $450,000
Augusta: Waste Disposal site - $600,000
Elizabethtown-Kitley: Kitley Line 2 reconstruction - $200,000
Front of Yonge: Road resurfacing - $541,392
Front of Yonge: Townline road work - $403,398
Leeds and 1000 Islands: Maple Grove Road - $840,000
Leeds and 1000 Islands: Firehall and Training Facility - $2,000,000

These projects are some of many across the province that will break ground thanks to joint federal and provincial funding.

The governments of Canada and Ontario have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects starting in the 2009 construction season.
