Harper Government Invests in Culture in Kemptville

KEMPTVILLE – The 13th annual Dandelion Festival will once again celebrate local arts and culture, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada. This was announced today by Gord Brown, Member of Parliament (Leeds–Grenville), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

The Dandelion Festival North Grenville will showcase the talents of local artists and musicians in Old Town Kemptville from May 25 to 27. This year’s activities will include a historical play, music and dance performances, historical walks, and art exhibits.

“Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in organizations that support local artists, like the Dandelion Festival,” said Minister Moore. “By supporting this organization, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support our arts, culture, and heritage.”

“The Dandelion Festival provides a terrific opportunity for local artists to showcase their talents to visitors and residents of North Grenville,” said Mr. Brown. “Thanks to Government of Canada funding, the Festival will support the local economy and enrich the cultural vitality of our community.”

“With the support of the Government of Canada and the Municipality of North Grenville, our festival will be able to showcase our tremendous home-grown talent, on the stage, in the park and on the streets,” said Brent Kelaher, Dandelion Festival Coordinator. “This annual event encourages residents of all ages to get involved in their community, while stimulating tourism and providing exposure and opportunities for local artists, artisans, musicians, athletes, and businesses.”

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $17,800 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
